Geela Bhel Puri ???? Yes, you read it right. That’s what Mumbaikars call it. Bhel Puri is a kind of snack which consists of all crunchy ingredients. So, while eating, you are going to feel the crunchiness and the taste will remain forever. The flavours of chutneys take the dish into another level.

What is Geela Bhel Puri?

In Mumbai, Bhelpuri is generally divided into two categories, i.e. Geela Bhel or Sukha Bhel.

Geela Bhel Puri :- Geela in English means “Wet”. Geela Bhel Puri is such where lots of chutneys are used to prepare the dish which makes it wet.

Sukha Bhel Puri:- Sukha means “Dry”. So, for preparing this, no chutneys are used and the bhel puri is totally dry which adds a good crunchiness to the dish.

Ingredients

  • Puffed Rice (Murmure)                   –           2 Cups

  • Crunchy Wafers (Papdi / Mathri)   –           5-6

  • Roasted Peanuts                             –           1 Tbsp

  • Sev / Namkeen                                 –           ½ Cup

  • Finely chopped Onions                  –           ½ Cup

  • Boiled Potatoes (Cubed or mashed)        –           ½ Cup

  • Tomato (Finely cubed size)                        –           ½ Cup

  • Green Chilli (Finely cut into pieces)          –           1

  • Dhania (Coriander Leaves)                        –           2 Tbsp

  • Lemon Juice                                     –           ½ Tbsp

  • Tamarind (Imli) Chutney                –           2 Tbsp

  • Green Chutney (Coriander)                       –           2 Tbsp

  • Salt                                                     –           As per taste

  • Red Chilli Powder                            –           ½ Tsp

  • Chaat Masala                                               –           1 Tsp

Directions

  •  Take a big bowl and add puffed rice into the bowl.
  • Add ingredients like roasted peanuts, Papdi/mathri and sev/mixed namkeen into the mixture. (The choice of namkeen is totally yours. You can also add chana dal or Bundi, etc.)
  • Time to add vegetables. Add Potatoes, onions, tomatoes and fresh green chillies into the mixture.
  • Now add masalas like red chilli powder, salt and chaat masala. Give a good mix to the mixture.
  • Add Coriander Chutney and Imli Chutney along with lemon juice. And mix them properly with the mixture.
  • Put it into a serving plate. Spread sev from the top and garnish with coriander leaves.
  •  Your Mumbai Style Bhel Puri is ready. Serve immediately before it becomes soggy.
